VAN MAHOTSAV WEEK

Spread the love

1st July – 7th July 2021

Day 1- 7

“He who plants a tree, plants hope” ~ Lucy Lacron

Van Mahotsav or Vanamahotsava is an annual tree planting festival celebrated in India. It was made a national activity in 1950 by the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Kanaiyalal Maneklal Munshi. It is celebrated in the first week of July as this coincides with the onset of the monsoon.

During this festival, each and every citizen of India is expected to plant a native sapling during the entire Van Mahotsav week and pass it on to the next generation. Native saplings are chosen as they can adapt easily to the existing climatic conditions.

The aim of the festival is to encourage people to support the conservation of trees as they help fight the ongoing climate crisis, sustain wildlife and provide us with resources amongst other things.

Here are two videos of our students sharing their thoughts on the same.

As part of the celebration, our school conducted a competition for our students from 1 to 7 July, 2021. The competition was based on the theme ‘Making a Green World – One Tree at a Time’. The chosen theme is aligned with our school’s theme for the year – One World, One People, One Vision, One Hope.

Students of grades 1 to 5 showcased their skills by producing innovative objects from waste. While the students of grades 6 to 8 brought their thoughts and emotions to life through their essays and poems on ‘Making a Green World – One Tree at a Time’. Our techies from grades 9 and 10 spread awareness on the importance of trees through their e – posters. And our artists renovated old items and made them into something new.

Here is the list of winners and some of their work!
