Van Mahotsav, the annual tree-planting festival celebrated across India, was observed with great enthusiasm in our school on Thursday, 4 July 2024. The theme for this year’s Van Mahotsav was “Sowing the Seeds for a Greener Tomorrow,” emphasizing the importance of trees in combating climate change and promoting environmental sustainability.
The primary section participated in a seed germination activity, working in groups to plant seeds and nurture them. Each group presented the importance of their chosen plant, highlighting its environmental benefits and ecological significance. This hands-on activity not only educated the young students about the life cycle of plants but also instilled a sense of responsibility as they will continue to care for their plants within the school premises.
The secondary section attended an insightful workshop led by Ms. Natasha D’Costa, the director of SUN Start Upcycling Now Pvt Ltd., a social enterprise dedicated to providing innovative waste management solutions. Ms. D’Costa, a staunch advocate for sustainable living, emphasized the collective responsibility we share in addressing climate change. Her talk underscored the vital role of Van Mahotsav in promoting tree planting as a crucial step towards mitigating climate change. She discussed sustainable practices such as garbage segregation and shared inspiring case studies of children who have made significant contributions to the environment through tree planting initiatives.
The event was a resounding success, leaving students with a deeper understanding of their role in protecting the environment and a renewed commitment to sustainability.
