India won her freedom on the 15th of August, 1947 and became a republic on the 26th of January, 1950. The new constitution of free India came into force with effect from this day.

The 74th Republic Day was celebrated at St. Stanislaus International School on the 25th of January, 2023. The teachers and students wore Indian tricolour outfits to celebrate the day. Mr. Elias Corriea was the event’s chief guest.

The Republic Day celebration kicked off at 8.30 a.m. with the new school council leading our chief guest Sir Elias Corriea, our school manager Fr. Frazer Mascarenhas SJ and the Academic Director, Mr Montwyn D’costa to the hall.

The programme began with the lighting of the Samai followed by a prayer service.  The Preamble was recited and then followed the cultural programme. The students sang a patriotic song. Our little ones from Grade 1 and 2  had a ‘freedom fighter’ themed fashion show while the older students danced to the foot- tapping beats of Yeh Desh Ke Yaaro Kya Kehna and Hum India Walle. They definitely kept the audience entertained!

Our chief guest then motivated the students to join the scouts and guides by sharing some of his scouting experiences. Following the speech, Mr Montwyn D’costa was invited to speak briefly and he expressed his appreciation to all the prominent guests in attendance, the Republic Day committee as well as the kids who had performed so admirably.

Finally, the National Anthem brought the event to a close. It was a morning well spent. It enkindled in all present, a feeling of pride in our country- a fitting prelude to Republic Day!
